Mountain View Medical Center, White Sulphur MT
About:
Mountain View Medical Center in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, began in 1952 when community members came together to establish a local hospital eligible for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Built through donations, volunteer labor, and community fundraising—from stock purchases and piano recitals to sewing groups and kitchen showers—the hospital opened in stages between 1953 and 1957. Despite early challenges such as staffing shortages, safety repairs, and slow reimbursements, the facility survived multiple financial crises throughout the 1960s thanks to continued local support. Growth continued with a 31-bed nursing home in 1976 funded by the Harmon Trust and ongoing gifts from the Charles M. Bair Memorial Trust, followed by the opening of a rural health clinic in 1987. A major renovation began in 2003 and finished in 2004, and today Mountainview Medical Center remains a vital Critical Access Hospital serving Meagher County.
